2000… not the best pop year, but good enough to find 99 stand-out tracks.
Who made it to number 1? Not Britney Spears who finished 109th. Nor was it Moby who, with four tracks in the list, is the most featured artist on this year’s list. Also four times present: the Spencer family. No Blues Explosion, but Jon is certainly present with 3 Boss Hog songs. The fourth Spencer song comes from his sister, better known as Brassy (36).
Belle and Sebastian have three songs in the list if you count Isabel’s group the Gentle Waves along. Eminem, Moloko and Emiliana Torrini also score hattricks.
Most songs are in English, the few exceptions are Death in Vegas and Pram (instrumental), Super Furry Animals (Welsh) and Sigur Ros (Hopelandish). Which somehow brings us to the Belgians: Das Pop finish first at number 23. Between them and Thou (100) we find the likes of Mauro, Soulwax and (new to our list) Lais.
Talking about new: in 2000 the world got acquainted to Badly Drawn Boy who already made it to our list in 1998. We did it again! (And hopefully not for the last time.) But let's change from ‘new’ to ‘young’: the youngest persons in the list are Sugababes (83) with an average age of 15,5.
But enough of the chats, it’s time for the charts:
1 DEATH IN VEGAS Dirge
2 EMINEM FEATURING DIDO Stan
